Taking a Harlem Storage Business From Zero Online Presence to 6,000 Monthly Visitors

Big Apple Mini Storage had no website and no digital presence. We built everything from scratch — website, content strategy, and ongoing SEO — and they now generate 300-400K monthly impressions and 150-200 leads per month from organic search alone.

The Challenge

Big Apple Mini Storage operates two self-storage locations in Harlem, New York. When they came to us in 2021, they had no website at all — zero online presence in one of the most competitive local markets in the world.

For a self-storage business, being invisible on Google is essentially leaving money on the table. People searching for storage in New York are high-intent — they need a unit, often urgently, and they're going to choose from whoever shows up in search results. Without a website, Big Apple Mini Storage was relying entirely on walk-ins and word of mouth while competitors with established online presences captured the bulk of local demand.

Our Solution

Website Build

We built the website from scratch on WordPress, initially using Oxygen Builder before later migrating to Breakdance for improved flexibility and development speed. The site was designed to convert — clear calls to action, easy-to-find location information for both Harlem facilities, and a straightforward enquiry process for prospective customers.

Content Strategy & SEO

Starting from zero meant we had to build every piece of content from the ground up. We conducted thorough competitor research to understand what was already ranking in the New York self-storage market, then mapped out a content strategy targeting the keywords Big Apple Mini Storage should be ranking for.

This included developing dedicated service pages, location-specific content for both Harlem facilities, and supporting content designed to capture searchers at different stages of the decision process. The focus was on building a content foundation that would compound over time through consistent, ongoing SEO work.

Ongoing SEO

SEO has been continuous since 2021. We've steadily built organic visibility through content development, on-page optimisation, and technical improvements. This is a long-term engagement — the kind of steady, compounding work that turns a brand-new domain into a genuine competitor in local search.

The Results

From a standing start with no website in 2021, Big Apple Mini Storage now has a consistent and growing organic presence in one of the most competitive local markets in the country.

The site generates between 300,000 and 400,000 Google Search Console impressions per month — significant visibility for a two-location storage business competing against national chains and well-established local operators in New York.

Monthly organic traffic sits at around 6,000 visitors, and the business generates 150–200 leads per month through a combination of phone calls and form submissions — all from organic search.

There's still work to do. Competitors with longer-established domains have stronger backlink profiles, and there's untapped potential in social media that hasn't been explored yet. But for a business that had literally nothing online four years ago, the trajectory is strong and the pipeline is real.
